Chiasso, Switzerland. 19.02.2007 – Allied Telesis, a global provider of secure Ethernet/IP access solutions and an industry leader in the deployment of IP Triple Play networks over copper and fiber access infrastructures, today announced the launch of the AT-iMG616, its new series of intelligent Multiservice Gateways (iMG). The new devices are being positioned by Allied Telesis as the successors to its highly successful AT-RG613 series of residential gateways, which have been deployed by multiple carriers and Network Service Providers (NSPs) across the globe. Key new features of the AT-iMG616 include six 10/100TX ports, compared to three in the AT-RG613 series, which enable customers to connect a higher number of devices like computers or set-top boxes to the Internet; remote configuration and management; and top-flight security protection for the user.

Simple Installation and Management with Softswitch Interoperability
The AT-iMG616 gateways are simple to install using a low-cost AT-iMG001 fiber wall outlet to provide the fiber termination. This outlet also features a locking mechanism that can be used by the service provider to lock the AT-iMG616 in place and prevent the end-user from inadvertently removing it. When power is applied to the AT-iMG616 it will immediately start communication with the NSP’s equipment via the fiber port. Allied Telesis’ unique Zero Touch Configurator™ software, in place at the NSP’s premises, automatically starts a secure authentication and registration process and sends configuration information back to the AT-iMG616 with no user intervention necessary. All the user needs to do is to connect his computer, TV, phones, or other devices to the gateway. The AT-iMG616 also supports a broad spectrum of softswitch manufacturers and models, ensuring compatibility and interoperability with the NSP’s existing equipment.

Security Features to Protect the Customer
To ensure maximum protection of the customer’s PC and other devices from hacking or other intrusion attempts, the AT-iMG616 also includes a wide range of security capabilities. These include an integral Stateful Inspection Firewall with NAT, as well as blockage of Denial of Service, port scanning, and web spoofing attacks.

Choice of WAN ports
The AT-iMG616 is available in three models supporting different fiber WAN port configurations: bi-directional for the AT-iMG616BD; multi-mode for the AT-iMG616SH; and single-mode for the AT-iMG616LH.

Additional Phone Line for Residential Customers
The AT-iMG616 is suitable for residential customers who can simply plug their existing telephone into one of its two analog ports instead of the wall socket. This provides the equivalent of an extra phone line for other members of the household or to connect an additional device such as a fax machine.

“The AT-iMG616 series is an ideal choice of Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) for NSPs looking to provide the next generation of high-speed voice, video and data services to subscribers via a Fiber-To-The-Home network,” said Melvyn Wray, Senior Vice President of Marketing EMEA at Allied Telesis. “With its easy remote provisioning, it also saves NSPs significant time and costs on the initial deployment as well as on the subsequent provision of upgrades and new services.”
